Good shout on Shed Seven, I'd add The Bluetones to that era of under-rated bands too.

Get to see them both in concert next month.

Of the more recent stuff I rather like Heroin And Your Veins,.

Thanks for the heads up. I had to Google to find out Burgess was the Charlatan's singer, who I remember playing and quite liked their sound, but I didn't follow them up. I'll investigate, as I love all things Lambchop/Kurt Wagner.

So laid back, as demonstrated by the story of how the album you mentioned came about.....

Burgess' second solo album Oh No I Love You was produced by Mark Nevers and recorded at his home in Nashville, Tennessee, US.[8] In 2012, Burgess explained the origin of this album :

"The root of this album goes right back to a Kurt Wagner show in Manchester. I carried Kurt's guitar to the car for him. I took the chance to ask him if he would ever consider writing a song with me. He said, "Sure Tim, you write the music and I'll write the words." That one song turned into an album and almost ten years after we first talked about it, the album is ready."[8]

Oh No I Love You also features collaborations with Factory Floor, R. Stevie Moore and My Morning Jacket, amongst others. The album was later nominated for the Artrocker 'Album of the Year' award in 2012.

...yeah, I'll look into that.

I don't really read the music press and you are the only person I know who has heard of Catfish and the Bottlemen. Didn't realise they were that well known.

Totally agree with you about Sugar and Bob Mould though.Copper Blue and Beaster barely left my walkman in 93-94. He had a decent solo album out about 7 years ago as well, District Line?

Cracker were a great band who were overlooked because they were American and not grunge. Kerosene Hat is a superb album.

Lambchop (the band, not the sock).

Not so much under-rated, but almost unknown, especially in their native USA, which is one of the yankees' biggest crimes.

Blues Traveller.

They were massive in the US back in the mid 90s.

Runaround, Hook and Mountains Win Again were their best songs. I guess Brit-pop was so massive here at the time that they never got much attention this side of the pond.

Goo Goo Dolls are also pretty damn good but only known over here for the track Iris from the crappy film where Nicolas Cage played an angel. Forgot the name but it was abysmal.

From the early 70s, Barclay James Harvest.

They always seemed to be overshadowed, in promotional terms, by several of their label stable-mates.

Outside (or away from, whatever floats your boat) Radio Caroline/RNI I can't recall them getting any media exposure at all,
